Two hours into an afternoon hike of the Land’s End trail in San Francisco, California, I made my way up a steep dirt path toward the next hilltop. One foot above the other, teetering on my sore ankles, I turned and grabbed half a dozen quick shots of another hiker on the hill I’d just passed. I lost my balance with my eye to the camera, but made sure to grab a couple more before I let myself fall sideways into the vertical of the bluff to my left. Good thing I did, because this was the last shot I took before my camera and I hit the ground.
