The plains zebra, known for its widespread presence, is the most prevalent species of zebra, inhabiting diverse regions across southern and eastern Africa below the Sahara. This species, characterized by its distinctive black and white stripes, has several recognized subspecies—six or seven in total. Notably, among them was the quagga, now extinct and once believed to be a distinct species, adding an intriguing historical dimension to the zebra family.
