The plains zebra, renowned for its ubiquity and expansive geographic distribution, holds the title of the most prevalent zebra species. Although its habitat is divided, it encompasses a significant portion of southern and eastern Africa below the Sahara. Scientists have identified six or seven subspecies, among them the extinct quagga, once believed to be a distinct species in its own right.
