After waking up at 4am and driving along the Blue Ridge Parkway in complete darkness to try and catch the sunrise from the peak of Mt. Mitchell (highest peak on the east coast), we got all the way to the top only to realize that the summit wasn’t officially open until an hour after sunrise. With the sunrise quickly approaching, we raced down from the summit back to the parkway to try and find an overlook to try and salvage some of the morning. On the way down we rounded a curve and this scene was laid out in front of us. In the background you can see one of the alpine ridges of Mt. Mitchell.
