going yoga class. The Sanskrit masculine noun yoga (devanāgarī: योग, also adapted into ioga) in the terminology of the religions originating in India indicates ascetic and meditative practices. Not specific to any particular Hindu tradition, Yoga was mainly intended as a means of spiritual realization and salvation, therefore variously interpreted and disciplined according to the school. This Sanskrit term, with a similar meaning, is also used in Buddhist and Jain circles. As a term related to darśana, yoga-darśana (doctrine of yoga) represents one of the six darśanas.
